Watch and Mac Leaping Ahead
Apple's latest event was held on March 9th and we're not surprised with what it had to offer. Rumors that had been building up for a few months were spot on. So lets have a look:
The Watch was first announced on last September and ever since it's made quite a few waves in the tech world. Why wouldn't it? Everyone agrees that it might look that great but with Apple's stubbornness behind it, it reaches the quality in performance that we expect. But the thing is, unlike other smartwatches, According to Apple they are targeting both: power-usage and fashion. We find the latter more believable. There's three different models of the Watch. One for day-to-day use, one for sports or any heavy athletic activity and one that has clearly been designed focusing on fashion. The Watch Edition (18 carat gold plated) can cost up to $10,000 which is about 7 lakhs in our currency! Woah! That's a lot. But there's the base model and the sports version which are arguably affordable so the masses will be opting for those two. Any new features? Well, no. Apple explained everything last year so there's nothing more to the table. It's definitely the smartwatch you need to keep your eye on.
Another product Apple announced that day was a new MacBook. But before we get into that, let me make one thing clear. This is NOT a new version of the Macbook Air. Why mention that? Because it should have been! It's thinner and lighter than the Air, and specifically targeted for portability. Exactly what the Air lineup was introduced for. But instead Apple just brought it as the "new Mac". Moving on to other matters. Yes, they did an amazing job with it. It has a 12 inch screen at 2304-by-1440 resolution, 1.2 GHz dual-core Intel Core M process that can turbo boost to 2.9 GHz, 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage all packed in to weigh only 2 pounds! But the most interesting part of this Mac is that it has one single port. One! A USB Type-C that can be used to charge the device, for video output AND to connect peripherals and other hardware. You've got all the wireless options available and it's something you'll want to carry around with you. The new force touch trackpad and the butterfly mechanism keys are neat additions too. But at the end, as a tech-enthusiast, I have my doubts. One port? Uhhh….I'm not so sure. As Verge's tagline said, "Thinner, lighter and prettier, but also compromised". So, we'll have to wait and see how the numbers turn out.
