Govt. announce plans to convert Post offices to e-Centres

The government has announced its plans to turn the existing post offices into E-centres. Teletalk, the state owned telecom operator will be sharing their offices in these post offices as part of this project. Telecom State Minister Tarana Halim stated, "The government is working to make internet accessible to all under the Digital Bangladesh vision. This move to rejuvenate the post offices is part of that vision. Moreover, to facilitate video conferences in the district administrative offices, high speed internet will be provided within the next 3 months."

These plans were discussed by Telecom State Minister Tarana Halim at a program organized by FBCCI to inaugurate the video conferencing network established between the 64 district chambers and FBCCI. Ekhoni.com, a popular e-commerce portal, will be collaborating in this project. Primarily, the district chambers of Rangpur, Natore, Tangail, Sylhet and two other districts will be connected to FBCCI. Gradually, the other districts will be joined to the network as well. FBCCI President Abdul Matlub presided over the program and State Minister for Post and Telecom Tarana Halim was the chief guest. Zunaid Ahmed Palak, State Minister for ICT Division was the special guest. Apart from them, FBCCI officials, representatives from district chambers and associations were also present.
