Special Consumer Electronics Issue for Eid

Kick off for couch potatoes

The World Cup season is here which means it's time to live and breathe football. Unfortunately, football games tend to miss more often than they hit the mark. Ruling aside the obvious choice that's FIFA, here are four games that'll hook you right in this summer.

PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER 2018 LITE

Platforms: PC, Consoles

If you want the multiplayer FIFA experience without shelling out around BDT 4000, you're asking for too much. For everything else, there is PES Lite, the death rattle of Konami's football game. This is the game you show your 5-year-old cousin and tell him that it's FIFA when it's actually not.

Pros:

+ Graphics

+ Free-to-play

Cons:

- Friends will say its fake FIFA

- You won't have friends if you play this

- Terrible matchmaking

Football Manager 2018

PLATFORMS: PC, IOS, ANDROID

If you spend more time in the Team Management screen than actually playing FIFA, you should've probably gotten FM18. While the game has stagnated worse than FIFA, you can pretty much pick any of the Football Manager titles after 2014, load a database update and enjoy the game.

Pros:

+ Super addictive

+ Depth in game design

Cons:

- Stagnant development

- Steep learning curve

- Lacks few official licenses

Tiki Taka Soccer

PLATFORMS: IOS, ANDROID

Tiki Taka Soccer is a testament to good game design on the mobile platform. Even though it uses on-screen joypad controls, you won't actually feel it holding you back. The game excels at long-term play value.

Pros:

+ Game Design

+ Real names

+ Isn't cash-hungry

+ Beautiful pixel art

Cons:

- Last updated in 2016

- Players lack personality

Football Strike

PLATFORMS: IOS, ANDROID

In the land of freemium games, it's difficult to fight Miniclip. Although it is another one of those free-kicks taking football games, the number of cosmetic items, progression, and plain fun gameplay will make you keep coming back.

Pros:

+ Addictive

+ Decent graphics

Cons:

- Freemium

- Wait times for in-game resources
