GP earns record revenue in 1st quarter

Bangladesh's leading mobile service operator Grameenphone has earned record Tk 3,490 crore revenue in the first quarter of 2019.

This is its highest ever revenue recorded in any quarter during its journey of 22 years in Bangladesh.

In its quarterly financial report published today, Grameenphone said the gain witnessed is 11.6 per cent compared to the first quarter of 2018.

The market leader showed Tk 890 crore net profit with a growth of 25.6 per cent. In January to March, their earnings per share stood at Tk 6.61.

Grameenpone's Chief Executive Officer Michael Patrick Foley said the company managed to deliver a strong performance despite regulatory challenges.

"Our strength remains in market execution where we pushed some new value propositions that gained good traction as well as saw an uptake in 4G conversion. We witnessed healthy growth in voice revenue as well as usage," said Foley.

The company also acquired 13 lakh new subscribers during the quarter, registering a 1.8 percent growth from the end of last year.

It said it acquired 11 lakh internet subscribers, and currently, 51.6 per cent of their total subscribers are using Grameenphone internet services.
