A three-day SME fair displaying products made by participants of a training programme kicked off in Dhaka yesterday.

Shuja Alam, Pakistan's high commissioner to Bangladesh, inaugurated the fair organised by Micro Industries Development Assistance and Services (Midas) in collaboration with the high commission.

The three-week training course in enterprise and skills development for 60 women entrepreneurs of the SME sector was organised by Midas and funded by the high commission, a statement said.

Alam also distributed certificates to the trainees. "Women empowerment is the backbone for economic and social development," he said.

Similar SME trade fairs will be held in Cox's Bazar and Rajshahi also.
