No gas crisis next year: Tawfiq-e-Elahi

Pinning hopes on imports, prime minister’s Energy Affairs Adviser Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury today said there will be no gas crisis from next year.

Nearly 50 crore cubic feet (cft) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) will be imported everyday in the start of next year and an additional 50 crore cft by mid-2018, he said.

Following the gas import, the supply of gas will increase 37 percent but the price of the utility will increase, he said. “We hope there will be no crisis of gas.”

Tawfiq-e-Elahi came up with the comments at a meeting of Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) at Motijheel Chamber Bhaban in Dhaka.

The prime minister’s adviser urged the traders to take preparation for it from now. He assured the price of LNG will be stabilised and brought within the purchasing power.
