‘US companies ready to invest in Bangladesh’

Senior US trade official Arun Venkataraman says today

The US companies are ready to invest in energy, particularly in liquified natural gas (LNG), to help Bangladesh grow further, a top US official said today.

Arun Venkataraman, assistant secretary of commerce for global markets and director general of the US and Foreign Commercial Service, made the comment at a press conference at Pan Pacific Sonargaon in Dhaka.

At the event, he inaugurated the 28th US Trade Show and new office of the US Commercial Services.

In his inaugural speech of the trade show, he also said the US companies are now stand ready to provide solution in the much-needed infrastructures, collaboration in airport expansion in Dhaka, dredging project, ICT, franchising in healthcare, digital economy and blue economy.

There are so many examples of partnership between US and Bangladeshi companies in different sectors, the assistant secretary also said.

The new commercial service centre will share export expertise and new international market research intelligence, Venkataraman said.

Regarding the US investment and busines climate, he also said the US has been working with the government, International Labour Organisation and the European Union to strengthen the labour environment in Bangladesh.
