Uber partners with Better Future for Women to onboard women drivers in Bangladesh

To mark International Women's Day 2021, Uber today announced a partnership with Dhaka-based non-profit foundation, Better Future for Women (BFW), which will enable women to gain skills so they can earn a livelihood as drivers on Uber's platform, said a press release by Uber today.

The partnership agreement was signed by Md Ali Armanur Rahman, country head, Uber Bangladesh, and Sumaiya Shimu, founder and chairman, Better Future for Women.

The association aims to create micro-entrepreneurial opportunities for women from across marginalised sections of society, by skilling them and providing them with avenues to earn a sustainable livelihood. Uber will host an onboarding fair at the end of March, where interested women can sign up as drivers to the platform. Once onboarded, the women drivers will get a designated hotline for support, the release added.

Ali Armanur Rahman said, "Uber Bangladesh is committed to the idea and ethos of inclusive growth and to provide women from all walks of life a chance to be financially independent. We are honoured to partner with Better Future for Women to enable women from non-urban areas to acquire the required skills and earn a livelihood by using the Uber app. We aim to onboard more women drivers by devising a value proposition that offers earnings, safety and support experience to them so that they can make a mark in the mobility industry."

Sumaiya Shimu said, "Better Future for Women is happy to partner with Uber to create economic opportunities for Bangladeshi women through supporting onboarding of women on Uber's ride-sharing platform which continues to become an integral part of our daily lives in Dhaka and beyond."
