Revenue officers protest ‘misbehaviour’ of customs official

Revenue officers and assistant officers today protested "misbehaviour" of a senior official of customs and demanded his suspension.

Protesters under the banner of Bangladesh Customs, Excise & VAT Executive Officers Association (BACUEV) started demonstratingin front of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) headquarters in the morning, demanding suspension of Joint Commissioner Luthful Kabirof Pangaon Customs House in Dhaka.

"We want justice," BACUEV Convener Khandker Luthful Azam said while addressing the gathering in front of NBR.

Azam alleged that the customs official at Pangaon misbehaved with a revenue officer on Wednesday.

The revenue officers and assistant revenue officers working at customs and VAT offices across the country have expressed their grievance as the authorities are yet to take any punitive measure against the official, he said.

BACUEV threatened to go for more demos unless the NBR takes action by today.

Contacted AKM Nuruzzaman, commissioner of Pangaon Customs House, said his office found proof of involvement of the official in question following an inquiry.

"We have submitted details to the revenue board," he said.
