Qatar Airways runs all women flight

Qatar Airways on Sunday operated an Airbus A350 flight QR194 from Brussels to Doha entirely by 15 women, from flight deck to cabin crew.

The European Commissioner for Transport Violeta Bulc described the initiative as a great example of encouraging women for joining the sector, says a statement.

“Women in transport are underrepresen-ted, constituting less than 5 percent of female pilots globally. We need to change this and strengthen women's employment in the aviation sector,” she said.

“Actions like Qatar Airways' flight with an all-female crew are a great example how to bring down stereotypes,” she added.

Akbar Al Baker, chief executive of Qatar Airways Group, said, “Qatar Airways is committed to promoting gender diversity, both within our airline and the industry as a whole.”

“Our flight from Brussels to Doha is a testament to our wider goal of ensuring that women are equally represented at Qatar Airways and recognises that the most advanced societies include women in the highest ranks of leadership,” he said.

The airline recently announced a 10-year partnership with International Air Transport Association (IATA) for the launch of an “IATA Diversity & Inclusion Awards”, which promotes greater gender diversification in the aviation industry.

The first winners will be announced at the IATA annual general meeting in June.

Qatar Airways currently operates a fleet of over 230 aircraft via its hub, Hamad International Airport in Doha, to more than 160 destinations worldwide.
