Murder accused beaten dead

A man, also an accused in a murder case filed with Ataikula Police Station, was beaten dead allegedly over a previous enmity in Mougram area of Pabna Sadar upazila yesterday.

The deceased, Saddam Hossain, 35, son of Rajem Pramanik of Mougram village, was an alleged member of outlawed Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP).

Police said Saddam and his men killed Rejaul Islam of the village over previous enmity in 2017. Police arrested Saddam, prime accused of Rejaul murder case, about a year ago.

Officer in Charge (OC) of Ataikula Police Station Nasirul Alam said Saddam came out of jail after securing bail from a court about a month ago and had been threatening slain Rejaul’s family members to withdraw the murder case filed against him.

Yesterday morning, Saddam went to Rejaul’s house again and locked in an altercation with the family members, the OC said, adding that, at one stage, Rejaul’s family members and relatives beat him mercilessly with bamboo and sticks.

Injured Saddam was taken to Pabna Medical College Hospital, where he died around 1:00pm, the OC added.
