Govt to import 3 lakh tonnes wheat from Russia

The government will import three lakh tonnes of wheat from Russia at a cost of Tk 1,032.90 crore.

The cabinet committee on purchase approved a proposal to this end in a meeting today.

The wheat will be bought under a government-to-government arrangement, according to the proposal.

The cabinet committee has also approved two separate proposals seeking to buy 3.80 lakh litres of soybean oil in the financial year 2023-2024.

Of them, the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will buy 3.30 crore litres edible oil from Brizo Marine SDN BHD of Malaysia, whose local agent is Sena Edible Oil Industries Dhaka, for Tk 433.62 crore.

The TCB will buy the rest 50 lakh litres of soybean oil from Bashundhara Multi Food Products Ltd at Tk 79.92 crore, according to the proposal.

Besides, the committee also approved another proposal of the TCB aimed at buying 6,000 tonnes of lentils from Sabnam Vegetable Oil Industries Ltd at Tk 58.11 crore in the current financial year.
