Govt to create 1.5cr jobs in 5 years
Minister says
Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen yesterday said the government has taken an initiative to create 1.5 crore jobs in the next five years to ensure employment for every eligible youth in the country.
“It’s a huge challenge but the government is trying hard to create the jobs,” Momen said while inaugurating a career fair at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in Dhaka.
The minister said 100 economic zones, which were under construction across the country, would create immense opportunities for jobseekers.
He said though the government was providing skills training to the youth to prepare them for the job market as well as allocating funds to develop young entrepreneurs, the private sector and educational institutions would have to come forward to create skilled workforce.
Momen urged the educational institutions to ensure quality education in order to create skilled graduates so that they could get jobs easily at home and abroad.
Brac University organised the two-day fair titled “NRB Jobs Presents National Career Fair-2019” under the theme “Campus to Corporate”.
More than 100 renowned public and private organisations, including multinational companies, local corporate entities and development and government organisations, are taking part in the fair to bridge employers and jobseekers.
The objective of the event is to provide a platform to students, who are on way to graduate or have already graduated, from public and private universities and colleges so that they can connect with the country’s leading employers and find careers that suit their interests.
Brac University Vice Chancellor Prof Vincent Chang chaired the opening session of the fair, which was also addressed by Jamaluddin Ahmed, general secretary of Bangladesh Economic Association, Dilara Afroz Khan Rupa, Brac University’s director for student affairs, and Mahbube Elahi Chowdhury, chief executive officer of nrbjobs.com.
Amzad Hussain, a director of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, presented a keynote paper titled “Youth Powerhouse: The key to be a developed nation”. Open from 10:00am to 6:00pm, the fair includes career grooming sessions where jobseekers can hear from industry leaders and experts.
