CPD to organise virtual conference to explore Bangladesh’s developments over 50 years

The Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) will organise a virtual international conference to explore the country's developments in different dimensions, including politics, economy, society and culture, as part of effort to celebrate the golden jubilee of Bangladesh's independence.

The conference will be organsied in collaboration with Cornell University, USA.

Experts from across the world will join the conference, the CPD said in a statement today.

The proposed event aims to deepen the understanding of Bangladesh's multifaceted developments over the last 50 years and also explore the processes that led to these changes.
The Board of Trustees of CPD took the decision to arrange the event at its 57th virtual meeting on August 4.
The CPD Board appreciated CPD's research and outreach-related activities, during January-June 2021.
The board approved the CPD's plan for research, dialogue, publication and outreach-related activities for July-December 2021 and also gave go-ahead to the interim accounts statement for January-June 2021 and budget for FY 2021-22.

Presided over by CPD Chairman Professor Rehman Sobhan, the Board meeting was attended by Trustee Members Khushi Kabir, coordinator of Nijera Kori; M Syeduzzaman, former finance minister; Syed Manzur Elahi, chairman of APEX Group; Advocate Sultana Kamal, former executive director of Ain o Salish Kendra; Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya, distinguished fellow of the CPD; Professor Syed Manzoorul Islam, former professor of English Department of Dhaka University; Parveen Mahmud FCA, managing director of Grameen Telecom Trust and former president of ICAB; Professor Mustafizur Rahman, distinguished fellow of CPD; Professor Rounaq Jahan, distinguished fellow, and Dr Fahmida Khatun, executive director.
