Direct-To-Home (DTH) satellite service provider Akash is going to hit the market from Sunday with a total of 115 satellite television connections which is being powered by the country’s pride project, Bangabandhu Satellite-1, said a top official of the company today.

Beximco Communications Limited Chief Executive Officer Faisal Hyder told The Daily Star that the new DTH brand will meet the thirst of the country’s entertainment seekers.

“Initially we are going to offer 115 TV stations and of that 20 will be HD quality and the service will be available with the devices from May 19,” said Faisal.

Beximco Communications Limited has earlier launched DTH service under the brand name of RealVU getting connectivity from foreign satellite companies and now they are turning to Bangabandhu Satellite-1 as per their licensing conditions.

After launching the RealVU service in different parts of Dhaka, Sylhet and Chittagong divisions in 2016 the company also later needs to suspend their service for different challenges.

And currently there is no authentic DTH service in the country.

Beximco also has changed its brand name with Akash also took five transponders from the Bangabandhu Satellite-1.

A top official of Akash said they would charge only Tk 399 per month for their initial standard package, and customers will have to have a dish from the company.

However, customers who have previously used RealVU will get discounts and incentives for taking the new services.
