German company to bring in e-passports

Germany-based Veridos GmbH is set to get the job of introducing e-passports in Bangladesh for the first time.

The cabinet committee on economic affairs yesterday approved a home ministry proposal for awarding the job.

A cabinet division official said the German company would provide technical and technological cooperation.

A memorandum of understanding was signed on an e-passport implementation project, an upgrade from the current machine readable passports, during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to Germany last year.
