GDP to expand by 6.03% this fiscal year

Says state minister for planning quoting BBS’s provisional figures

Bangladesh's economy would grow by 6.03 per cent in the current fiscal year of 2022-23, according to the provisional projection of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).

Prof Shamsul Alam, state minister for planning, shared the information after the meeting of the National Economic Council.

The BBS projection is based on the performance of the various indicators of the economy in the first half of FY23.

In December, the government revised down the gross domestic product (GDP) growth forecast from 7.2 per cent to 6.5 per cent due to the impacts of the Ukraine war.

The GDP expanded by 6.9 per cent in 2020-21 and 7.1 per cent in 2021-22.

Per capita income is expected to be $2,800 in the ongoing fiscal year, the state minister told reporters.

Per capita income stood at $2,793 in 2021-22.
