Use of ICT needs to be increased to face 4th industrial revolution

The use of information and communication technology has to be increased to create skilled human resources to address the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution, speakers said at a webinar today.

The Small & Medium Enterprise (SME) Foundation, organised the webinar styled "Possibilities and Challenges of the 4th Industrial Revolution: SME Perspective".

The opportunity to trade and business will not be confined to any particular geographical location as the fourth industrial revolution is a matter of intelligence. Rather, it will spread all over the world, speakers said.

SME Foundation Chairperson Md Masudur Rahman said the entrepreneurs need to be aware of ICT to grab the opportunity of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

"With the discovery of technology, the cost of production and distribution of goods and services will be reduced at an unprecedented rate as machines will help people," he said.

About 70 SME entrepreneurs from different parts of the country took part in the two-hour-long webinar.

Md Mafizur Rahman, managing director of SME Foundation, presided over the event, where Tanvir Faisal, deputy manager of the foundation presented the key notepaper.

Habibur Rahman, programme assistant of a2i, Shamim Ahmed Deowan, chairman of the department of robotics and mechatronics engineering at the Dhaka University, and Sajal Chandra Banik, professor of the department of mechanical engineering at the Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, attended the event.
