Cumilla Economic Zone gets final govt nod

Cumilla Economic Zone (CEZ) has got final approval from the government as the 12th private economic zone in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) handed over the licence to the authorities of the CEZ, a concern of Meghna Group of Industries (MGI), in an event held at InterContinental Dhaka today.

The industrial park is expected to create 50,000 employment opportunities and draw investment worth $2.0 billion.

Shaikh Yusuf Harun, executive chairman of BEZA, said the CEZ will get a huge response from domestic and foreign entrepreneurs as it is very close to Dhaka.

To draw more investment from abroad, there is a plan to allocate at least 50 per cent of the land of the economic zone for foreign investors, he added.

Mostafa Kamal, chairman and managing director of MGI, said Meghna Group has been working with a reputation in various important sectors of the country, including the manufacture of exportable products.

He also said they are very keen to pave the way for attracting investment from home and abroad.
