China praises Bangladesh as investment destination

Chinese entrepreneurs see Bangladesh as an attractive investment destination and want to explore new business opportunities in different areas, including river dredging, automotive, agriculture and building of airport.

Chinese businesses also appreciated the friendly attitude of Bangladeshi people and the business community and praised the stable political environment in the south Asian country.

They made the observations at the China-Bangladesh Business Forum at the Hotel St Regis in Beijing on Friday.

The embassy of Bangladesh in Beijing and the China Top 500 Foreign Trade Enterprises Club jointly organised the programme.

A number of senior executives of some prominent Chinese companies commended Bangladesh for creating a pro-business environment, the embassy said in a statement.

Yang Qingyun, general manager of Shandong Water Conservancy Construction Group Co Ltd, shared his experience of working in Bangladesh and urged other entrepreneurs to invest in the country.

Rapid industrialisation is needed to spur faster economic growth, and bringing more foreign direct investment is a must to materialise it, said M Fazlul Karim, Bangladesh's ambassador to China. He said Chinese companies can focus more on shipbuilding, pharma-ceuticals, agro-processing, light-engineering, jute, ICT, infrastructure and tourism to pour their money into.

“There are numerous areas to further expand the ever-increasing trade and investment cooperation between Bangladesh and China.”
