The commerce ministry is working to form an authority for issuance of halal certification in order to help Bangladesh's exporters grab increased share of the global halal market.

Once it is established, Bangladesh will be able to export foods and other products globally with the certification, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said on the second day of the ongoing Bangladesh Business Summit 2023.

The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) organised the three-day summit in cooperation with commerce and finance ministries along with Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka.

The government is providing the exporters with the privilege to import capital machineries and industrial raw material at reduced duty and taxes, he said.

Priority in case of banking and other incentives are also being extended in order to encourage investment and exports, the minister said.

Apparels are dominating the export basket now and there is potential also for increasing shipments of jute and jute goods, light engineering, agro-products, plastic and plastic products and services, he said.
