A Supreme Court lawyer today served a legal notice on the government -- to take necessary steps in 30 days -- to transfer the foreign reserve currency of Bangladesh from the US Federal Reserve Bank to safer countries in order to protect national interest.

Md Mahmudul Hasan sent the legal notice to the foreign secretary and Bangladesh Bank governor, saying that a writ petition will be filed with the HC seeking necessary directives if they do not take measures within 30 days to this effect.

In the legal notice, he said freezing financial assets of different countries has become part of USA's regular actions -- to keep those countries under pressure.

Considering the current circumstances, there is apprehension of freezing the foreign reserve of Bangladesh deposited in the US Federal Reserve Bank, Mahmudul Hasan said in the notice.
