SC upholds BB decision to remove NRBC Bank's MD

Dewan Mujibur Rahman

The Supreme Court today upheld the Bangladesh Bank decision to remove the Managing Director of NRB Commercial Bank, Dewan Mujibur Rahman.

The apex court said that its stay order on the High Court freeze on Bangladesh Bank’s decision to remove Dewan Mujibur Rahman from the post of Managing Director of NRB Commercial Bank will continue.

A five-member bench of the appellate division headed by Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah, who is performing the functions of chief justice, passed the order, after disposing a petition filed by the chairman of NRB Commercial Bank challenging the HC order.

NRB Commercial Bank’s lawyer Barrister Mehedi Hasan Chowdhury told The Daily Star that the apex court’s stay order on the HC directive regarding removal of Dewan Mujibur Rahman will continue following the SC order.

The Bangladesh Bank on December 6 removed Rahman from the bank for his alleged involvement in a number of loan scandals involving around Tk 700 crore.
