4 of a family, driver killed as bus hits private car in Sylhet

Five people, including four members of a family, were killed and another was critically injured as a bus crashed into a private car on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Sylhet's Osmaninagar upazila early today.

The deceased are Shwapan Kumar Das, an official of BRAC, his wife Lovely Rani Das and their eight-year-old twins -- Saaj and Sajon -- and their driver, whose identity could not be known immediately.

Fire Service and Civil Defence rescued another child of the couple, Sourav, in critical condition and sent him to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.

The family hailed from Loiarkul village of Sreemangal upazila in Moulvibazar. They were going to Sunamganj from Sreemangal on Eid vacation.

Mainul Islam, inspector of Sylhet Highway Police, said, "A Cumilla-bound bus from Sylhet hit the private car in Tajpur area around 5:00am." 

"Five persons died on the spot," the police officer said.
