Media Youth Leadership Summit 2014

Media Youth Leadership Summit 2014 was inaugurated on December 4. It was a six-day long programme by the youth organisation, 'Dream On;' the main benefactors were EMK Center and priyo.com.
Chief guest at the inauguration ceremony was the CAO of American Center, George Mesths. Also attending the inauguration were founder of DRIK, Shahidul Alam; CEO of priyo.com, Jakaria Swapan, and producer of the EMK Center, M. K. Aref. The programme ended on December 9.
The main goals of Media Youth Leadership Summit 2014 was to guide the young interested to work in media and to enlighten the media with the creativity and the use of intelligence of the youth.
There were three sessions every day, and the participants visited media offices on the 2nd and 3rd day to understand the work procedure firsthand.
At the summit, the guest speakers from Bangladesh were: Mostofa Sarwar Farooki (filmmaker, Chabial), Preeto Reza (photographer, Wedding Diary), Jakaria Swapan (Editor, priyo.com), Sohana Nasrin (Co-founder, Nineteen), Forhad Hasan (filmmaker, Nineteen Film Factory) and Kebria Sarkar (programme producer, ABC Radio). The guest speakers from USA were: Elaine Stein, Cody Black and Kory Makaton.

'EDU ROCKS' with Ayub Bachchu

East Delta University (EDU), Chittagong organised a day long cultural event on November 17 at the engineering institute. The event titled 'EDU ROCKS' featured live music, drama and fashion shows by the students, while Ayub Bachchu perfomed.
Sayeed Al Noman, Founder Vice Chairman, inaugurated the program. Professor Muhammad Sekandar Khan, Vice Chancellor; Professor Dr. Obaidul Karim, Dean of Faculties; Sazia Abdullah, Trustee; Professor Dr. Debasish Chakraborty, visiting foreign guest faculty; Shafayet Kabir Chowdhury, Registrar along with students and guardians were present.

Grameenphone-Wikipedia campaign to enrich Bangla content

Grameenphone and Wikipedia have initiated a campaign to enrich Bangla content in Wikipedia. The campaign was announced at a press conference, titled “Wikipedia Regional Contributors Meet” on November 24 at the Bishwo Shahitto Kendro.
Starting from November 29, this campaign is going across seven regions, followed by a gala event to be held in February, 2015. The purpose of this campaign is to generate awareness on Wikipedia as a knowledge hub in seven regions that include Dhaka, Khulna, Rajshahi, Chittagong, Sylhet, Rangpur and Barisal.
 At the end of each session a specific Wikipedia article contribution will be assigned to the participants of each region. Three winners will be selected based on the number and quality of articles and will be awarded.
Marcus Adaktusson, Head of Communications, Grameenphone Ltd; Zakia Zerin, Head of Digital & Social Media, Grameenphone Ltd and Munir Hasan, President, Wikimedia Foundation Bangladesh were present at the press conference.

NUB Discusses Potential of Private Entrepreneurs

A national seminar on “Potential Strength of Private Entrepreneurs of Bangladesh and Investment Possibilities” was held on December 7 at Northern University Bangladesh (NUB). The Minister for Planning, AHM Mustafa Kamal, was present as the Chief Guest. H.E. Shiro Shodashima, Ambassador of Japan was present as a Special Guest. The program was presided over by Professor Abu Yousuf Md. Abdullah, Chairman, NUB Trust. The program focused on the contributions made to the economy of Bangladesh by private entrepreneurs.
Md. Musa, Chief Advisor of NUB and former Secretary, gave the opening speech. The main discussion was conducted by Professor Dr. M. Shamsul Haque, former Vice Chancellor, NUB.
In the closing statement, Dr. Abu Yousuf Md. Abdullah thanked the participants who attended the program.

DIU joins Global Access Asia

Daffodil International University (DIU) signed a Memorandum of Agreement for a transnational network with 51 international universities represented from 20 countries on the 13th session of the Asian University Presidents Forum (AUPF) in Thailand.
This agreement will allow Bangladeshi students to share courses for Global Access Asia (GAA) with international universities. Students belonging to a GAA affiliated university can access the materials of 45 GAA universities.
Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, Board of Trustees of Daffodil International Universities along with fifty other universities Chairman and Vice Chancellors signed the MoA for GAA.

'College Mathematics Olympiad 2014' at ULAB

Department of Computer Science and Engineering of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organized “College Mathematics Olympiad – 2014” on December 5 at the university premises. More than 100 students from over 25 colleges participated. Professor Dr. Mohammad Kaykobad, the special guest of the event, inaugurated the program while Dr. Sazzad Hossain, Head of CSE, ULAB, welcomed the participants.
The aim of this Olympiad was to identify and encourage young talents in Mathematics in Bangladesh..
Professor Dr. H.M. Jahirul Haque, Pro-Vice Chancellor, gave a welcome speech for the second half of the event. Dr. Amal Krishna Halder, Vice Chancellor, Ranada Prashad Saha University, was the chief guest. Mursalin Habib from Notre Dame College was the champion. Karishma Farhina from Shaheed Bir Uttam Lt. Anwar Girls College and Shweta Majumder from Maple Leaf International School were the 1st runners up and 2nd runners up respectively.
Professor Dr. Sazzad Hossain, Professor Muhammad Ibrahim, Engr. Abubokor Hanip, Founder and CEO, PeopleNTech LLC and Zakaria Swapan,  Founder and CEO, Priyo.com along with faculty members from were present in the program.
