BSF kills 1 in Joypurhat

Indian Border Security Force (BSF) shot dead a Bangladeshi cattle trader inside the Indian territory opposite to Hatkhola frontier in Panchbibi upazila of Joypurhat early today.

The victim is Md Jony Islam, 20, son of Anwar Hossain of Shrimantopur village in the upazila, reports our Dinajpur correspondent quoting Lt Col Abdul Razzak Tarafdar, commanding officer (CO) of Joypurhat-3 Battalion of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

The BGB official said BSF troops of Bhimpur camp opened fire when Jony along with other cattle traders entered India through pillar No. 280 on Hatkhola border around 3:00pm.

After Jony was shot in the firing, BSF men took him to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 5:30am, there, the commanding officer said.

BGB men already lodged a strong protest and urged the BSF to return Jony’s body immediately through holding a flag meeting.

But BGB is yet to get any response from the BSF till 11:00am when the report was filed.
