Over 50 people were injured in a clash between two groups of people over constructing a drain in Brahmanbaria's Sarail upazila today, amid the countrywide shutdown to contain the Covid-19 spread.

The injured were sent to Upazila Health Complex for treatment.

Police and locals said the clash ensued around 10:00am when Pakshimul Union Parishad member Molai Mia locked in an altercation with his predecessor Nasir Uddin after Nasir started digging a drain on a road.

The clash engulfed the entire Bhuishar village, as followers of the former and present members -- armed with sharp weapons -- attacked each other. It continued for two and half hours, leaving 53 persons injured, they said.

The situation is under control. Additional police force have been deployed to prevent any untoward situation, he added.
