BNP has called a dawn-to-dusk shutdown in Rangpur division for tomorrow protesting the arrest of its acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

Detectives this afternoon picked up the BNP spokesperson as he came out of the Jatiya Press Club where he took shelter during a scuffle between pro-BNP and AL journalists on its premises yesterday.

Meanwhile, the local unit of the party has already enforced a hartal in Thakurgaon, one of the eight districts of the division and the hometown of Fakhrul, and declared to continue the shutdown till 6:00pm Wednesday, on the same issue.

Asadul Habib Dulu, Rangpur division organising secretary of BNP, made the announcement at a press briefing held in Lalmonirhat this evening, reports our Rangpur correspondent.

He said the shutdown will be enforced in all eight districts -- Rangpur, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Gaibandha, Nilphamari, Dinajpur, Thakurgaon and Panchagarh -- of the division.
