BNP today criticised acting chief of Anti-Commission Commission (ACC) Shahabuddin for his “political” comments on the party’s Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

“The ACC chief spoke like a political leader though he chairs a constitutional position. He has gone past his limit,” BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir alleged in a press briefing at the party’s Naya Paltan office.

The rebuke from BNP came following Shahabuddin’s comments yesterday blasting Khaleda Zia and Transparency International for their criticisms against the anti-graft watchdog.

In reply to Khaleda’s claim that ACC was offering clean chit to ruling Awami League leaders, Shahabuddin pounced on Khaleda personally for “favouring corruption during her government’s term.”

In the press briefing of today, Fakhrul demanded that the ACC chief withdraw his comments on Khaleda.

Fakhrul also pulled reference to state that Shahabuddin was a leader of Chhatra League, student wing of the Awami League, back in his days in the 1970’s.

The BNP spokesperson also alleged that Shahabuddin was speaking irresponsibly to curtail the “fact” that the ACC’s failure to curb corruption had come to the limelight.

They are burning with fury after Transparency International disclosed their incapacity in the corruption index on Bangladesh, Fakhrul added.
