BNP leader Mahbub Uddin dies

BNP chairperson’s adviser Advocate Khandaker Mahbub Uddin Ahmed died of old age complications at a city hospital this evening. He was 89.

Previously a member of the national standing committee, the highest policymaking body of the party, breathed his last around 7:55pm at the United Hospital, Abdul Latif Jony, an assistant office secretary of BNP, told The Daily Star.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia expressed deep shock at the death of the renowned lawyer and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.

A former lawmaker from Dhanmondi, Ahmed left behind his three daughters and one son to mourn his death.   

His first namaz-e-janaza will be held at the Supreme Court at 10:00am while the second one in front of the BNP’s headquarters at 11:00am tomorrow, Sayrul Kabir Khan, a media wing member of Khaleda, told The Daily Star.

Ahmed will be laid to eternal rest at the Azimpur graveyard after his third janaza at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

They added that he had been suffering from different old age ailments for more than a year.
