BNP infighting kills 1 in Jhenidah

A man was killed and seven were injured in a clash between two factions of BNP in Shailkupa upazila in Jhenidah Sunday night.

The deceased is Ayub Hossain Mandal alias Ayub Matabbar, 51, of Chatura village in the upazila, reports our Jhenidah correspondent.

There was a longstanding conflict between Ayub Hossain Mandal and his neighbour Nekbar following establishing supremacy over the village.

Both of them are the supporters of local BNP leader and former municipality mayor Khalilur Rahman, said Maniruzzaman Mollah, officer-in-charge of Shailkupa Police Station.

Around 10:00pm Sunday, Ayub picked up a quarrel with one Khalek, who belongs to the group of Nekbar.

At one stage, supporters of both the groups swooped on each other lethal weapons, the OC said.

Ayub, who suffered injuries during the clash, was rushed to Shailkupa Upaila Health Complex. He was shifted to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead around 12midnight.

Six of the injured are undergoing treatment at the health complex.

Additional police personnel were deployed in the area to maintain law and order.
