BNP hopeful of settling bilateral issues with India
BNP is hopeful of resolving the outstanding bilateral issues, including Teesta and land boundary, during the visit of Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to Bangladesh, a senior party leader said today.
“We welcome the visit of the Indian minister to Bangladesh as it would boost bilateral relations between the two countries as well as the Saarc countries,” Fakhrul said.
The visit will create a positive impact in this regard, the BNP spokesman said while talking to reporters at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office this morning.
Fakhrul’s remarks came ahead of the arrival of Swaraj, who is scheduled to reach Dhaka tonight on a three-day official visit.
He said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had pledged after assuming power that it would boost bilateral relations among the Saarc countries if it is voted to power.
As per the commitment, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already visited a Saarc country, Bhutan, and is sending Swaraj to Bangladesh today, he added.
In the first visit of a cabinet member of the BJP government in India, Swaraj is likely assure Dhaka that New Delhi is committed to fulfilling the deals and agreements the two neighbours reached since Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to India in 2010.
She is scheduled to meet President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her Bangladeshi counterpart AH Mahmood Ali and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
