Bishop Bejoy D’Cruze appointed Archbishop of Dhaka

Bishop Bejoy D'Cruze OMI has been appointed the new Archbishop of Dhaka, as Cardinal Patrick D Rozario, Archbishop of Dhaka Catholic Archdiocese, has retired from the post.

The new appointment was announced by the Vatican this afternoon, said the Christian Communication Centre in a statement.

As per rules of the Catholic Church, a bishop has to apply to the Vatican for retirement after completion of 75 years.

The application submitted by Archbishop Patrick D Rozario has been granted. He will, however, continue his role as the Cardinal, the statement said.

Bishop Bejoy D'Cruze was born on February 9, 1956, at Tuital in Nawabganj, Dhaka and was ordained a priest on February 20, 1987. He was appointed the bishop of Sylhet on July 8, 2011.

His installation took place in Moulvibazar on September 30, 2011.
