BCL sues 4 Shibir leaders, 2 held

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) sued four Islami Chhatra Shibir leaders, including its president, of Rajshahi University unit today for their alleged involvement with the killing of its leader Rustam Ali Akanda.     

Mehedi Hasan, vice-president of RU BCL unit, filed the case with local police station around 12:30am implicating the four Shibir leaders and 6 unnamed people in case, reports our Rajshahi correspondent quoting Rezaul Islam, officer-in-charge of Motihar Police Station.

Meanwhile, police detained two Shibir men -- Jakaria alias Sanaullah alias Jaki, treasurer of RU Shibir unit, and Hossain Khurshid, an activist of the unit for their alleged involvement with the killing incident.

They were detained from Binodpur near the campus area this morning, said OC Rezaul.

The accused Shibir leaders are:  Ashraful Alam Imon, president of RU unit, Zia Uddin Bablu, Human Resources and Development affairs secretary, Ashraful Islam, president, and Shahidul Islam, general secretary of its Shaheed Suhrawardy Hall unit of the university.

Akanda was shot dead inside his dormitory of the university campus on Friday afternoon.
He was a joint secretary of Shaheed Suhrawardy Hall BCL unit and a fourth-year student of political science department of the university.

Meanwhile, classes and examinations were not held for today as a strike for indefinite period, enforced by BCL activists protesting the killing, continued for the second consecutive day demanding arrest of the killers of Akanda.
