BCL at it, again!
Govt. must rein them in
ACTIVISTS of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) forced Chittagong railway station to stop all its official functions on Wednesday evening. As the report goes, the BCL men wanted the railway station authority to fulfill their demand to supply tickets for six coaches of a Dhaka-bound express train for Friday. Since the station master could not fully comply with their request, he and his staff drew BCL activists' wrath.
It is learnt that earlier two other branches of Chittagong BCL had in a similar manner booked five coaches of two Dhaka-bound trains. Evidently, all these BCL groups pressuring Chittagong railway station authority simultaneously to oblige them on similar demands put the latter in desperate straits.
One fails to understand why can't student activists show a semblance of respect for officials engaged in public service? In this particular case, why couldn't they wait for or even agree to the alternative idea, as reportedly suggested by the station master, of availing other Dhaka-bound train services for the purpose? Regrettably, they have again resorted to their all too familiar, highhanded methods to impose their will on the railway officials at the expense of public interest. This is very unfortunate and totally unacceptable.
The damage that the wayward BCL activists do to the government's image should not be countenanced by the authorities. It is in the greater interest of ruling AL that it keep such activists of its student front on a tight leash.
