Activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) kept the teachers and the officials of Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST) confined to the newly opened administrative building for two hours yesterday as the BCL men were not invited there.
The administrative work of the university started in its newly built administrative building at Rajapur yesterday morning.
The officials arranged an informal function on the occasion.
Aggrieved at not being invited there, BCL activists locked the administrative building, confining the teachers and the officials there for two hours.
They also vandalised rooms in the academic building of PUST.
Mizanur Rahman Sabuj, president of PUST unit of BCL, said, "The new administrative building was opened followed by a programme but Chhatra League men were not invited there. Asked about it, officials of the university misbehaved with the students. Angry students then locked the newly opened administrative building.”
PUST Proctor Md Kamruzzaman said they persuaded the BCL men to unlock the office at about 11:00am.
"Officials and teachers entered the newly built administrative building following an informal programme. It was an internal function and so, there was no scope to invite political leaders there," he said.
