Shane Jurgensen has been released with immediate effect from his contract as Bangladesh coach by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), reports cricinfo.com.

Jurgensen had resigned in late April but it was believed he would stay in the job till the end of the proposed ODI series against India in June, giving the BCB a chance to find a replacement.

The board, however, announced today that he will be leaving immediately.

In his letter to the BCB, Jurgensen had said he was irked by comments in the media from some board directors who had talked about looking for a batting-oriented coach. Later, BCB chief Nazmul Hassan had said: "If anyone wants to leave then there is no reason to keep him as he won't be able to give his 100 percent."

Since Bangladesh became a Test nation in 2000, the BCB has employed eight foreign coaches, with the last three - Stuart Law, Richard Pybus and Jurgensen - resigning without completing their contract.

Eralier, Jurgensen said he would not consider Bangladesh Cricket Board’s request to stay in his position until the 2015 World Cup.

Jurgensen said this after a meeting with board officials where BCB chairman Nazmul Hassan Papon requested him to stay in his post until the World Cup.

In response to the request, Jurgensen expressed his willingness to coach the national team until the end of a three-match ODI series with India which is schedules for June this year.

Jurgensen, who became the full-time coach for the national team in February 2013, sent his resignation letter through mail on April 28 after a string of poor performances by the national cricket team.

He joined the Bangladesh team in 2011 and was contracted to work with the board till 2015.
