BAU forms body to probe assault on 2 teachers

House tutors submit resignation, urge early action

The authorities of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) yesterday formed a five-member committee to probe the incident of abusing two teachers by a student.
Meanwhile, protesting the incident, house tutors of all halls of residence of BAU submitted resignation to the respective provosts on Sunday.
Around 9:00pm on March 17, SM Rayhan, a resident student of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Hall of BAU, was seen in an objectionable condition with a girl student of BAU, on the campus when Bodruzzaman Sarkar Bilu, a lecturer of animal husbandry faculty, asked them to maintain decency at the institution.
At this, Rayhan got furious and hurled abuse at Bilu.
Mentionable, the last time for entrance to the female dormitories of BAU is 8:00pm.
As Bilu informed the BAU proctor of the matter and wanted proper action, Rayhan threatened and engaged in heated exchange with Bilu's colleague Rezwanul Haque Kanak.
In this connection, the university authority yesterday formed a five-member probe body headed by Prof Dr Md Abdur Rahman.
The other members are Prof Dr Md Akhtar Hossan Chowdhury, Prof Dr MAM Yahia Khandokar, Dr Nasrin Sultana Juyena and Md Siddikur Rahman.
They have been asked to submit the probe report within four working days.
BAU Teachers' Association has warned of tougher movement if proper step is not taken against the culprit.
