Bangladeshi artistes lauded in Kolkata

As homage to Tagore on his 73rd death anniversary, an Indo-Bangladesh collaborative production was held at Satyajit Ray Auditorium, RTC, ICCR, Kolkata on August 8.

Samiul Islam Poluck (Bangladesh) and Iman Chakraborty (Kolkata) recited and read out Tagore creations both in Bengali and in English while Mustapha Khalid Palash and Shwapnil Shojib (Bangladesh) with Iman Chakraborty (Kolkata) rendered Tagore songs at the event.

Talented Bangladeshi dancers -- Srimonti Pooja Sengupta and Asha Hossain together with Kolkata-based soloists and troupes Kalamandalam Goutam Ghosal and Natyalok; Bappa Chatterjee and his Ethnic Dance Academy and Raktim Goswami performed dances at the event.  

Pooja Sengupta earned accolade for her ignited facial expressions and innovative attire while donning the character of Prakriti of Tagore's “Chandalika”. She later performed as abhisharika.

Raktim's application of classical jazz with Tagore song was appreciated. Poluck's brilliant elocution enthralled the audience.

Imon's voice was as always amazing. Shojib with his rendition of Tagore songs and Bappa in dancing took the audience to a certain depth with the song “Majhe Majhe Tobo Dekha Pai”.

And last but not the least,  Kalamandalam Gautam appeared on stage in his complete outfit of kathakali dance with the character of Krishna in Tagore's Bhanusingher Padaboli; and with Bhanu's homage to the almighty on his own words the act came to an end.

The Kolkata audience heartily appreciated the efforts of the artistes. “We all felt blessed that we had that opportunity to represent our country on such a major occasion,” said Pooja.

At the end of the programme, ICCR's Kolkata regional director Rajshree Behra gave a short speech.

Rabindranath Tagore Centre, ICCR Kolkata and Delvistaa Foundation, Dhaka presented the programme. Promising Bangladeshi Tagore singer Shwapnil Shojib designed the production.
