Bangladesh women lose to Pakistan by 67 runs

A day after a thumping victory against Papua New Guinea, Bangladesh women's team suffered a crushing defeat by 67 runs at the hands of Pakistan in their second ICC Women's World Cup Qualifier match at the P Sara Oval in  Colombo today.

Bangladesh started the day on the wrong note, losing the toss before seeing Pakistan post 227 runs in 50 overs.

Bangladesh captain Rumana Ahmed grabbed three wickets for 40 runs while Khadija Tul Kubra and Salma Khatun chipped in with two wickets each. Although Pakistan enjoyed a 76-run opening stand in 18.5 overs, they lost three wickets in a hurry and were on the back-foot at 3-78.

However, a fourth wicket stand of 69 in 14.4 overs followed by a sixth wicket partnership of 49 in 8.3 helped Pakistan reach the challenging total.

The women in red and green were under the cosh from the start in their reply against a disciplined Pakistan bowling and failed to put on a substantial partnership before being bowled out for 160 in 49.3 overs.

 

Nigar Sultana top-scored with 41, followed by Sanjida Islam's 34. Ghulam Fatima grabbed three wickets for 28.
