Shakib, Tamim frustrate again

Bangladesh cricketers Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan failed to make any lasting impact as their side, Peshawar Zalmi, suffered a nine-run defeat to the Karachi Kings in Dubai yesterday.

After sending Karachi out to bat, Zalmi only handed Shakib Al Hasan two overs despite him being one of their best bowlers. The left-armer got rid of the dangerous Babar Azam, who made a 38-ball 46, and gave away just 14 runs. Shoaib Malik made an unbeaten half-century to take Karachi to 174.

After the exchange, opener Tamim Iqbal put fear into the hearts of the opposition as he quickly hit three fours -- although the first one came off a fortunate edge. However, he was sent back soon after for a 12-ball 16.

With Peshawar at 3-33, Shakib strode in, tasked with rebuilding the innings, but he departed after a short stay for a 16-ball 18 that featured three fours.

Darren Sammy (34) and Shahid Afridi (54) tried to take Peshawar to the win, but they fell just short.
