The United Nations is concerned over the harassment and arrest of Prothom Alo senior reporter Rozina Islam.

Stéphane Dujarric, spokesperson of UN Secretary-General António Guterres, said this while responding to a question during a regular briefing of the UN on Tuesday, Prothom Alo reports.

"News regarding the arrest of a journalist in Bangladesh has caught our attention; we are keeping an eye, as it is clearly a worrisome issue," he said when Mushfiqul Fazal Ansari, a permanent correspondent of the UN, asked him about the issue.

"Our position regarding the issue is very clear, journalists under no circumstances can be harassed or physically assaulted. Free working environment for them must be ensured -- be that in Bangladesh or anywhere else," he added.

"All of us have observed the role of journalists during the Covid-19 pandemic all over the world. Wherever, whatever situation they are working in, their field of work has to be open," Dujarric also said.
