Touchstone statue of Lord Vishnu recovered from Thakurgaon

Police recovered a touchstone statue of Lord Vishnu from a brick field at Jamun village in Haripur upazila of Thakurgaon this afternoon.  

Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Haripur Police Station said that Habibar Rahman, owner of Jamun Brick Field, made an agreement with one Jogen of the same village for collecting earth from his pond.

Workers hired by Habibur were collecting earth by digging with an excavator on Wednesday and found the statue that evening. The statue was then kept in a room of the brick field.

When the matter became public, police went to the spot and recovered it this afternoon.

The height of the statue is 3 feet and its width is 1.3 feet and it weighs about 30kg. It is being kept at the police station till filing of this report, the OC said.

UNO Abdul Karim informed that the statue will be handed over to Directorate of Archaeology through the district administration.
