Shimulia-Banglabazar route remained busy with Dhaka-returnees this morning, three days following Eid-ul-Fitr.

Eighteen ferries were operating on the route since morning, reports our Munshiganj correspondent quoting Inspector Md Hafizul Islam of Mawa Traffic Police.

Vehicles and commuters crowded the Banglabazar ferry ghat to return to Dhaka after the holidays.

Many were also arriving at Shimulia ghat to go to the southern districts but the crowd was thinner than it was at Banglabazar, the inspector said.

The pressure of Dhaka-returnees on the route is not beyond the normal limit, claimed Inspector Ashikur Rahman of Banglabazar Traffic Police.

At Shimulia ghat, many commuters were facing difficulties due to lack of vehicles.

Motorcycle, CNG and battery-run autorickshaws and pick-up vans were the only vehicles heading towards Dhaka. Transport workers were also demanding excessive fares taking advantage of the situation, many commuters complained.
