Rajshahi University administration suspended a syndicate meeting scheduled for today in the face of opposition from teachers.

Members of RU Progressive Teachers' Society Against Corruption were demonstrating in front of the vice-chancellor's residence since morning demanding suspension of the meeting as they feared "illegal" recruitment during it, reports our RU correspondent.

Today's syndicate meeting would have been the last one of the current Vice-Chancellor Prof M Abdus Subhan's tenure.

Meanwhile, current and former leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League also took position in front of the VC's residence.

As the teachers tried to enter the residence in order to meet the VC, the BCL men barred them. They harassed the teachers in front of police and proctorial body, teachers alleged.

Proctor Prof Lutfor Rahman was also harassed by the BCL men as he tried to intervene, they said.
