College student's body recovered from Dhaka flat; Bashundhara MD sued for abetting suicide

Police recovered the body of a young girl from a rented flat in Dhaka's Gulshan area last night.

The deceased was a college student, hailing from Cumilla. She lived in the flat alone, police said.

Her sister filed a case with Gulshan Police Station early today against Sayem Sobhan Anvir, managing director of Bashundhara Group, Sudip Chakrabarty, deputy commissioner of Gulshan division police, told The Daily Star.

In the case statement, charges of abetting suicide was brought against the businessman, he said. 

"We are investigating the allegations. If we find primary evidence against the accused, we will go for legal action against him," the DC added.

Police officials said the girl called her sister in Cumilla yesterday afternoon and said she was in trouble. Her sister arrived in Dhaka and rushed to the flat. After breaking open the door, she found the girl's body hanging from the ceiling fan.

On information, police rushed to the spot. Police initially found evidence that the girl was acquainted with Sayem, who used to visit her there, The DC said. 

Another police official said there are many photos of the man with the girl in the flat. Digital devices used by the deceased were seized for forensic analysis. Security guards of the building also told police that the accused used to visit the girl there.

Abul Hasan, officer-in-charge of Gulshan Police Station, is investigating the cases.
