Metro rail will start running in Dhaka this Victory Day: planning minister

Planning Minister MA Mannan today said that metro rail will start running from Uttara to Agargaon in Dhaka from Victory Day (December 16) this year.

He was talking to reporters while observing the progress of metro rail construction work at Uttara's Diya Bari area in Dhaka.

Although the progress of the work had slowed down due to Covid-19 pandemic, construction is now on day and night, the minister said, adding that a committee is working to determine the ticket price of metro rail.

Talking to the reports there, MAN Siddique, managing director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), said that the trial run of metro rail will start on April 23 this year.

The trial runs usually continues for three months to a year in different countries, he said adding that after the trial run, it can be said with more certainty when the commercial movement will start.
