Ferry services smooth at Shimulia, Banglabazar

People, who are either returning to Dhaka or heading for the southern districts, have been gathering at Shimulia and Banglabazar ferry ghats today -- the third day of Eid-ul-Fitr.

But the commuters do not have to wait for long as 18 ferries are operating on the route today, our Munshiganj correspondent reports, quoting Assistant Manager of BIWTC Shimulia ghat.

Many of the commuters, however, are not maintaining physical distancing or using masks -- risking their lives.

Md Hilal Uddin, inspector of Mawa traffic police, said vehicles are boarding ferries maintaining serial at Shimulia ghat. Ambulances and vehicles carrying patients and dead bodies are being given priority, he said.

Md Ashique, police inspector of Banglabazar ghat, told this correspondent around 10:00am that no vehicles were waiting at the ferry ghat at that time. The terminal is witnessing no extra pressure today, he said.
