Crisis committee begins factory visits in Ctg to ensure timely salaries, bonuses, health measures

The crisis committee formed by the Ministry of Labour and Employment to make sure workers get their salaries and festival bonuses started visiting factories, including garments, today.

The committee led by Mohammad Nasir Uddin, director of the Department of Labour and also convener of the crisis committee, Chattogram visited APT Fashion Works Limited and Chattogram Container Transportation Limited, both in Nimtola area of the port city on the first day, our Chattogram correspondent reports.

Mohammad Nasir Uddin, convener of the committee, told The Daily Star that in light of the instruction from the prime minister, they started to inspect whether factories were paying salaries on time ahead of Eid, following the health guidleine for workers and if there was any deprivation which may lead to labour unrest.

"We found everthing okay on the first day and asked authority not to sack a single worker during such a tough time," he said.

Abdullah Al Sakib Mubarrat, member secretary of the committee, told The Daily Star they identified 10 factories and garments to inspect in the first phase and it will continue.

Mubarrat also said garments factories were being prioritised during the visits.
