Bangladesh invites UAE leaders to Mujib Year and 50th independence anniversary celebrations

Bangladesh has invited UAE leaders to join the celebrations of Mujib Year and the 50th anniversary of independence this year.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam extended the invitation during a meeting with UAE State Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh at the latter's office in Abu Dhabi today.

Shahriar Alam is visiting the UAE to attend IDEX and NAVDEX-2021 [International Defence Exhibition and Conference] as the representative of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from February 21-25. 

The UAE state minister commended the wise and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for achieving economic and social progress in Bangladesh and for managing the challenges of the Covid-19, says a statement of the foreign ministry. 

The other issues discussed include continued support for Rohingya repatriation, holding of next foreign office consultations, cooperation in the field of trade and investment, food security and employment opportunities for Bangladeshis in the UAE.

They also discussed regional and international issues of mutual interests and cooperation in multilateral forums.

Bangladesh Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Md Abu Zafor and Director General (West Asia) at the foreign ministry, FM Borhan Uddin were present.

Earlier, the state minister attended the commemoration of International Mother Language Day and Shaheed Dibash at the Chancery of Bangladesh Embassy in Abu Dhabi and paid respects to martyrs of the language movement by placing a floral wreath at the makeshift Shaheed Minar set up at the Chancery.

He also visited the facilities of the new Chancery and exchanged views with the officials of the embassy in a separate meeting.
